As Germany will engage themselves in the Euro 2020 that will kick off tonight, their star mid-fielder and also a crucial part of Real Madrid, Toni Kroos decided to open up about a sensitive issue that has been doing predominant rounds in the transfer market.
The discussion was about Sergio Ramos who is rumoured to be headed away from the Spanish capital and may end up landing for their rivals, Sevilla according to a few wild reports.
The Spanish central defender is linked with moves to PSG, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea wherein a return to Sevilla can also be on the plate.
However, as per the reports, Madrid wants their most experienced defender to extend his residence in the Spanish capital and the German midfield-general is rooting for Ramos to take the offer.
Kroos told reporters, “I don’t know how things are going with the club. Of course, he’s a top colleague and I enjoyed very much playing with him and I really hope that we’ll have some more years together.”
He also continued, “But in the end, it’s not my decision. What I can say is that he’s a great guy – and the best captain I ever had in my career.”
Sergio Ramos at Real Madrid
Ramos has spent a staggering 16 years at Madrid now as he joined Los Merengues in 2005 from Sevilla. His stint at Santiago Bernabéu has seen him winning five La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies.
Ramos has made a total of 670 appearances for Los Blancos. Despite being a titan in their rearguard for more than a decade and a half, 2020-21 wasn’t kind enough to him. Plagued by injuries and mediocre displays, he could only bag 21 appearances.
To make life miserable for Ramos, he was even dropped from the Spanish squad for the Euro 2020. The defender was dejected after this surprising move and believes that it will be in his best interest if he takes his time and prepares himself for the upc9king season.
He cited, “It hurts me not to have been able to help my team more and not defend Spain but, in this case, it is better to rest, fully recover well and, next year, return as we have always done. It hurts not to represent your country, but you have to be honest and sincere.”
