Manchester City is prepared to make Real Madrid midfield sensation Toni Kroos a big summer offer.
Toni Kroos, a Midfielder, has reportedly been targeted by Manchester City as part of the reigning champions’ summer revamp, as reported by Fichajes.
Kroos’ current contract is set to expire after the current season, and he is in no haste to make a choice. It’s possible that Carlo Ancelotti will offer him a new contract since he plays a key role in the Italian manager’s plans.
However, the 32-year-old has not committed to remaining and may look into other possibilities as he will be eligible to sign contracts with other teams beginning in January. Since City would prefer to take advantage of his present contract situation, a possible reunion with Pep Guardiola is on the table.
In order to speed up the move, the English champions are prepared to significantly increase his salary. Kroos’ current annual salary is €9 million, and he stands to make a stunning €14 million if he does not renew his contract with Madrid.
The future of Ilkay Gundogan at City is uncertain since he is in the last year of his contract and is free to leave the club this coming summer. The English giants need a player of comparable size to replace his spot, and Toni maybe that player.
The German midfielder has played under Guardiola before and has lauded the Spanish coach freely since he understands his philosophy.
Unfortunately for City fans, they’ve watched as Brentford and other clubs have easily beaten them this season. They will be looking to add reinforcements in the next offseason, and Kroos’ impending free agency would be a fantastic acquisition.
Kroos has been a mainstay in Real Madrid’s starting lineup despite the club bringing in Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga to replace their ageing midfield. In spite of Kroos’s repeated statements that he plans to retire in Madrid, the sport of football is always full of surprises.
After reshaping their roster by signing Erling Haaland this summer, City may get their desire by signing Kroos in the offseason.
