Youssef En-Nesyri attracts interest from Premier League clubs, Arsenal and Newcastle United among the interested parties

Both Arsenal and Newcastle United are said to be keeping a close eye on Sevilla striker

Despite an injury-plagued season, Youssef En-Nesyri, a striker for Sevilla, is continuing to garner attention from the Premier League clubs, according to Fichajes. Premier League teams Arsenal and Newcastle United are both said to be keeping an eye on the 24-year-old forward ahead of the summer transfer season.

En-Nesyri joined Sevilla in January 2020, after loan spells with Malaga and CD Leganes in Spain. The Moroccan centre-forward had a promising start to his career with the Andalusian club. But it was during the 2020/21 season that he made a spectacular breakthrough. On the season, he netted 24 goals in 52 games across all competitions, with eight of them coming during his six appearances in the UEFA Champions League.

His accomplishments attracted a lot of interest during the summer transfer window last year. But he ended up sticking there at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan instead of moving on to another club. However, the striker has had a rough season in Spain as a result of a muscle ailment that caused him to miss a stretch of games towards the conclusion of the season in the country.

Only 12 appearances in La Liga this season have seen En-Nesyri take the field, scoring three goals and collecting two assists in the process. Arsenal was among the clubs that expressed interest in the Moroccan despite his injury troubles and lack of playing time in the previous season’s first round of the Champions League.

It seems that the Gunners will continue to keep an eye on the 24-year-old during the summer as they attempt to overhaul their strikeforce before the start of the new season in September. Arsenal was forced to sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January, and both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are set to depart the club when their contracts expire in the summer.

If this happens, Mikel Arteta would be left without a natural striker, forcing the north London club to explore the market for alternatives. A transfer for Napoli midfielder Victor Osimhen has been suggested, while the likes of Alexander Isak, Darwin Nunez, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have all been connected with the club. Recent rumours also suggest that Arsenal is scouting Hugo Ekitike, who has been linked to Manchester United.

Will the transfer of Youssef En-Nesyri to Arsenal eventually happen?

However, Arsenal has not forgotten about En-Nesyri and are keeping a close eye on his status in Sevilla. In the hunt to sign the former Leganes striker, Arsenal is not alone in their pursuit of him, as Newcastle United is also keeping an eye on him.

When the summer transfer market opens, the Magpies are likely to spend extensively to ensure that they do not relegate to EFL in the next season or two. Newcastle United will want to recruit a new centre-forward soon, given the club’s over-reliance on the injury-prone Callum Wilson, as well as the club’s January acquisition Chris Wood’s disappointing start to life at St James’ Park.

Aside from expressing an interest in Youssef En-Nesyri, the Tynesiders are also keeping an eye on another of Arsenal’s targets, Lille’s Jonathan David. Sevilla may be willing to sell En-Nesyri, but they will seek at least €30 million in exchange for his talents, which should not be a problem for either Arsenal or Newcastle United.
