Arsenal want to get the €42 million rated right-back in the summer transfer window in 2023

Reports suggest that Arsenal have entered the competition for Joao Cancelo, as Mikel Arteta seeks to acquire a third player from Manchester City within the past year. The Portuguese wingback is presently on loan at Bayern Munich and has also been linked with a potential move to Barcelona.

According to a Matt Law report in the Telegraph, Arsenal is the most recent team to demonstrate an interest in Cancelo. The Gunners are actively seeking a right-back and view the Manchester City player as an ideal match for Arteta’s strategies.

Last summer, Arsenal secured the signings of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City, which aided their challenge for the Premier League championship. However, they have stumbled in recent weeks, allowing City to surpass them. Arsenal currently trails City by four points, having played one additional match.

Pep Guardiola, on the other hand, has not yet ruled out the possibility of retaining Cancelo at the club in the forthcoming season, despite the player’s loan departure in January. Although Bayern Munich possesses a €70 million option to permanently sign Cancelo during the summer, it is improbable that they will exercise it.

Joao Cancelo has disclosed that his role was restricted under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City following a recent tactical shift. The manager employed a defender in the midfield, consequently diminishing the responsibilities of a full-back within his formation.

Manchester City is open to the idea of allowing Arsenal to pursue Cancelo’s transfer, while they have their sights set on Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell and Brentford’s Aaron Hickey as potential replacements (as per GOAL). Overall, Cancelo has accumulated 154 appearances for City, contributing nine goals and 22 assists.
