Joao Palhinha, a midfielder for Fulham who is 27 years old, has apparently attracted attention from Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur
Fulham paid over £20 million to bring in Joao Palhinha, and the move has paid dividends for the London club. The Portuguese international has adjusted to life in the Premier League with the ease of a duck to water. This season, he has scored three goals for the team’s league.
The 27-year-old is now one of the most trustworthy defensive midfielders in the league. He’d be a great asset for Liverpool. Fabinho, a Brazilian midfielder, has been terrible this season, and Jurgen Klopp needs new players badly.
It remains to be seen whether Fulham will allow a crucial player to depart in the middle of the season. The London club is well-funded and under no obligation to offload Palhinha in the new year. For this reason, Liverpool may have to wait until the next summer transfer season to get the 27-year-old star player.
Tottenham, who were also interested in signing Palhinha during the summer, is now also keen on acquiring the Portuguese international’s services. It seems unlikely that the London club would spend money on a defensive midfielder rather than a creative midfielder.
Who will get him?
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Yves Bissouma are just two of the players already at Antonio Conte’s disposal. It’s possible that the London club is going overboard by pursuing the services of another defensive midfielder. Spurs would be smart to get a creative midfielder who can score and set up goals for the team.
Both clubs are gunning for one of the top four spots in the league and could need some reinforcements up front to improve their chances of making the UEFA Champions League. Kouadio Kone is another midfielder who Liverpool has shown interest in.
At age 27, the Portuguese midfielder is at the height of his abilities and likely feels the timing is ripe to further his career. The midfielder can be enticed by the chance to play for Liverpool or Tottenham. And if there is a real offer on the table, it’s unclear whether he’s been persuaded.
