When Manchester United play Newcastle United in the Premier League this coming weekend, it’s possible that Cristiano Ronaldo may seize the offensive reins for the Red Devils.

Joleon Lescott, a former defender for Wolves and Manchester City, has predicted that the Portuguese would guide the Red Devils to a decisive win at Old Trafford on Sunday. Lescott made his prediction while looking forward to the encounter.

Cristiano Ronaldo started for Manchester United in their match against Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League yesterday. He had come off the bench in their last Premier League match, a 2-1 win over Everton, but he was back in the starting lineup for yesterday’s match against Omonia Nicosia.

The Portuguese player had a respectable performance against Omonia, with a couple of excellent shots on goal, but he was unable to hit the back of the net throughout the match. The Cyprus-based team had their goalkeeper Francis Uzoho to thank for not allowing the five-time winner of the Ballon d’Or to score when they were competing against him.

After that performance, Joleon Lescott is anticipating that Ronaldo will maintain his spot in the starting lineup for the match against Newcastle this coming Saturday.

“This is another tough one to call,” the former Manchester City and Wolves centre-back wrote in his column for Livescore

“I’m expecting Cristiano Ronaldo to come back into the starting XI for Manchester United. I’ve been impressed with how Antony has started at Old Trafford, but Newcastle will be no easy task after climbing to sixth with two successive wins,” he added.

Lescott pointed out the Portuguese player’s ability to make something out of nothing while explaining why he thinks the Portuguese player should start the game against the Magpies at Old Trafford on Sunday.

“However, Ronaldo can create moments out of nothing and for that reason I’m backing a United win,” the Englishman said.
