Mikel Arteta explains who will be Arsenal’s No 1 Goalkeeper.

After a convincing win against Norwich City at the Emirates on Saturday, the Gunners registered their first win in the league by winning 1-0. With these 3 points, Arsenal now rank 13th in the table and will be looking to get more points in the upcoming fixtures, which is relatively easy compared to their opening three fixtures where they faced the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City. This was also Arsenal’s first clean sheet of the season, which was kept by the new goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale.

Manager Mikel Arteta was all praises for the Ramsdale after the match, “I think he was terrific,” said the Spaniard after the game. Aaron Ramsdale was signed from Sheffield United this summer for 24m and is expected to be a long-term replacement for Bernd Leno, who is expected to leave the club next summer when his contract runs out at North London.

After failing to keep a single clean sheet and conceding nine times in just three games, Leno was dropped for the game against Norwich, and Ramsdale was given his first Premier League game for the Gunners. The 23-year-old had previously appeared for Arsenal against West Brom in Carabao Cup, where Arsenal thrashed them 6-0 and Ramsdale kept a clean sheet as well.

“It’s not only what he did on the technical side, it’s what he transmits, his energy, his chemistry with the backline, how he reacts, his body language – I think he was top,” said Mikel when asked about Ramsdale’s impressive performance against Norwich City.

Who will start as the goalkeeper?

While Leno still looks the number one for Arsenal right now, things could change during the path of this season based on performances. When asked about this question, Mikel Arteta replied, “I want to see how they perform. Now we need performances and we need to win football matches.” Whoever gives the better performances, transmits better things, and is more reliable is going to play.”

It will be interesting to see how Arsenal manage both Ramsdale and Leno this season.
