Edinson Cavani Decides To Stay At Manchester United Amid Rumours

Since arriving at Manchester United before the start of last season, Edinson Cavani has been a fan favourite at Old Trafford. From resignifying the importance and pride of the number 7 shirt at the club last season to handing it over to Cristiano Ronaldo respectfully before the start of this season – the whole fan base is in love with him and his endeavours on the pitch.

Last season his goal-scoring record reached double digits as he netted 10 goals in 26 Premier League games and a total of 17 goals in all competitions for Manchester United. This season he has struggled with his short-term injuries a lot and that has hampered his game time majorly, resulting in a steep decrease in his goal-scoring rate. But this has not stopped some of the top clubs in the world from showing extreme interest in him.

Reportedly, FC Barcelona and their new manager Xavi is a big fan of the Uruguayan striker and wants to bring him to Spain in January. But the interim manager of Manchester United Ralf Rangnick has played down those rumours as he believes that Cavani is set to stay in England at least for the rest of this season.

Ralf believes Edinson Cavani could really be a perfect role model

“He [Edinson Cavani] told me he will definitely stay and would want to stay until the end of the season”, said Rangnick after having a half-hour chat with his centre forward. The German manager has also highlighted that he himself wants Cavani to stay and contribute to maintaining the synchronization in the dressing room.

According to Rangnick, the Uruguayan can contribute off the pitch too with his vast experience of playing in France and Italy. He can mentor young players and newcomers such as Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho. Rangnick wants Cavani to be ‘the best possible role model’ for the Manchester United players with his work ethic, dedication, mentality and loyalty.

These words, although, have not put an end to the speculations yet. If the reports are to be believed, FC Barcelona are still determined to land Cavani as the Catalonian club has struggled a lot this season in front of the opposition’s goal and believe Cavani to be the solution to that problem. The next few weeks are going to be key in the development of this transfer as on one hand, the lack of playing time may test Cavani’s patience and trust and on the other hand, the interest from Barca and their tempting offer may provoke the striker to make the move. What eventually happens remains to be seen but it is certainly going to become pretty exciting for the neutrals to watch.
