Real Madrid Has Made An Offer For A Bundesliga Defender In the Summer

Real Madrid, are showing interest in signing Dayot Upamecano, a 23-year-old French international who is available for a summer transfer.

The Real Madrid interest in Dayot Upamecano, according to a report by 90min, might result in the player joining the club during the summer transfer window. The 23-year-old may be released by Bayern Munich before the start of the 2022/23 season. This is a little over a year after joining from Bundesliga rivals RB Leipzig on a free transfer.

Upamecano is one of the top defenders in the Bundesliga. He had established himself as a reliable member of the RB Leipzig defence. He played his youth football at the Red Bull Arena. Last summer, the French international completed the most significant transfer of his professional career by joining Bayern Munich.

However, even though the 23-year-old has mostly been a regular at the back for the Bavarians. He has made a total of 30 appearances across all competitions. The move to the Allianz Arena has not gone as planned. Upamecano has been in and out of the Bayern Munich starting lineup in recent weeks. Thus, casting doubt on his long-term future at the club and drawing the attention of Real Madrid in the process.

Real Madrid will almost certainly look for a centre-back in the summer transfer window. Their determination has been bolstered by the 4-0 thrashing they received at the hands of Barcelona in the last El Clasico. Given that Eder Militao and David Alaba are the only dependable central defenders at Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal, the necessity to strengthen the backline has become even more pressing.

Will Los Blancos make a move for Upamecano?

In the summer transfer window, Jesus Vallejo would depart Real Madrid. So, Upamecano might come in as a significant boost. Apart from the 23-year-old French international, Real Madrid is also showing interest in several other centre-backs. It includes Merih Demiral and Antonio Rudiger, among others.

The Real Madrid hierarchy has lately shown interest in Lucas Hernandez. However, despite Upamecano’s troubles and considerable speculation over his future, Bayern Munich is unlikely to allow a transfer of the former RB Leipzig defender. Particularly with Niklas Sule poised to join Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window.

Real Madrid will almost certainly have to look elsewhere for a replacement. Although, the acquisition of Upamecano may be the best option if the opportunity arises. For the time being, the 23-year-old French international has re-emerged on Real Madrid’s radar as the club continues its quest for a central defender.
