Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspurs lock horns for the €21.4M-rated signing

Spurs weren’t the only ones interested in signing Spanish fullback Pedro Porro; La Liga winners Real Madrid allegedly made a bid as well

According to Defensa Central, a Spanish news site, Real Madrid has made an offer to sign Pedro Porro for the current season. The Spanish fullback is expected to sign with Tottenham soon despite his €45 million release clause. Despite the fact that the north London club has not yet reached an agreement to sign the player, he is eager to do so.

Since moving to Sporting CP from Manchester City, Pedro Porro has been nothing short of spectacular. After achieving great success at Girona FC, the 23-year-old was never given a chance to do the same at the Etihad. Over the course of his 2.5 years with the Portuguese club, though, he has only improved.

The Spanish fullback played for Sporting CP on loan for two seasons before signing a permanent deal this summer. Also, Porro has been outstanding thus far this year, contributing to 21 wins with two goals and 10 assists. Real Madrid and Tottenham have both taken note of the player’s development and shown interest in signing him.

With the Spanish centre back’s performance levels declining, Real Madrid will require a replacement for Dani Carvajal beginning with the next season. The fitness of the veteran fullback has been a problem for him in recent years. Furthermore, Lucas Vazquez has been quite inconsistent throughout the last year. A number of right-backs, notably Achraf Hakimi, have recently caught Real Madrid’s attention.

Nonetheless, Porro has developed into an attractive option for Real Madrid. The Spanish full-back has played in La Liga before, making him a desirable option for Los Blancos. Furthermore, Real Madrid can easily afford his €45 million release clause. Despite the Merengues’ offer, it seems the 23-year-old will sign with Tottenham.

The former Manchester City defender has reportedly emerged as a top target for the north London club. And Porro wants to join Spurs, so a transfer in January is not out of the question. That might provide Antonio Conte with some much-needed comfort in the face of the inconsistency shown by Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty.

Given that Sporting would only let him depart if a bidder triggers his release clause, it is uncertain whether Tottenham will pay €45 million to acquire the Spanish full-back. Still, it’s quite improbable that Real Madrid would be able to sign Porro during the next January transfer window.
