A change in manager has not helped Manchester United out a lot till now. More than the results, the supporters are frustrated with the gameplay of the team under their interim manager Ralf Rangnick. The January transfer window has opened and the club may look to utilize it to make the situation better before it gets much worse. Manchester United might have no hopes to win the Premier League title but they are still in the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League and a few players of certain profiles may help them land at least one silverware by the end of this season. Here are three picks that the club should look to bring in –

#1 Sergej Milinković-Savić:

The Serbian midfielder has been football’s one of the hottest properties for the past four seasons now. He had been linked with various Premier League clubs on numerous occasions in the past. He is currently enjoying one of his best-ever seasons at S.S. Lazio under the new manager Maurizio Sarri who is letting Sergej go on offence a lot more and dominate the right side of the pitch.

This has resulted in him already scoring 7 goals – his second-best goal scoring tally in his Serie A career and assisting 7 times – his second-best assist tally in Serie A career – in only 20 games. At the current rate, he can certainly end this season with his best-ever goal involvement stats in a single Serie A season.

Not only his offensive contributions but also his defensive contributions are also impressive. With 1.1 interceptions per game and 1.6 tackles per game, he attempts 1.2 clearances per game. He can easily fit into a 4-3-3 system if Ralf Rangnick decides to switch the system and play to the strengths of Milinković-Savić. He can also adapt to the changes quite well, so if Manchester United chooses to break the bank for him, it will be money well spent, that’s for sure.

#2 Nikola Milenković:

Another Serbian professional is shining brightly in Serie A this season. If reports are to be believed, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspurs are battling for the signature of Nikola Milenković at the moment. In his 17 starts in the league this season, he has registered 1.2 interceptions per game and 1.9 tackles per game. He does not take any chances while protecting the goal and often opts for a safety-first approach – his 3 clearances per game is a testament to that.

He is excellent in both ground and aerial duels and is extremely hard to dribble past. Another important aspect of his game is his ability to distribute the ball – something that Manchester United needs badly. If Manchester United can land him, he is sure to be an automatic fit to their structure as he will not only help them to play out from the back but will also provide them with much-needed stability.

#3 Julián Álvarez:

The Argentine youngster has been linked with the Red Devils for nearly a month now but the deal has not yet gone through. In 21 Liga Profesional de Fútbol games, he has scored 18 goals and provided 6 assists. His vision and ability to create chances are impeccable – his 2.1 key passes per game and 9 big chances created till now are proof of that.

He also prefers to play on the right but can switch wings and positions and is comfortable in playing in any offensive position. His defensive endeavours can bring up the overall level of Manchester United in the final third. His ability to win possession 0.8 times per game and his willingness to attempt 1 tackle per game is exactly what Manchester United is lacking in attack. He is Rangnick’s favourite but the club is yet to bring him to the Theatre of Dreams.
