The La Masia graduate earned praises during his debut year as many thought that he would be the club’s future. However, in recent seasons, he has failed to live up to his promises due to inconsistent performances.

Former manager Ernesto Valverde handed him a debut in 2018. However, he has featured in only 56 games with just two goals to show. Then, the next manager, Ronald Koeman completely overlooked Riqui Puig and benched him for long.

Even, Xavi’s incoming didn’t change his situation. As things stand, Barcelona is open to selling him as they know that Puig could have a better future elsewhere.

Even in the 2021/22 season, Puig had just 18 appearances out of which he started only two games in La Liga. Now, the Catalan giants have even signed Frank Kessie which has further affected his playing time.

The midfielder’s contract will expire in 2023 and they are not planning to hand him a new deal.

Barcelona News Transfer: Riqui Puig Could Change His Fortunes In The French League

AS Monaco is already on a hunt for a new midfielder this summer. Their experienced veteran Cesc Fabregas has left the club and they have also sold Aurelien Tchouameni for a massive fee of £100m to Real Madrid.

Puig’s capability to play numerous roles in midfield could help the French club in their contest of winning the French league.

Also, Lyon are in the market to sign a new midfielder as they are unable to lure Tanguy Ndombele from Tottenham. Even, Lucas Paqueta could move to the Premier League this summer. So signing the Barcelona midfielder would make sense for them as well.
