Martin Ødegaard Talks About Mesut Özil After Scoring The Winner Against Burnley

In a recent interview, Arsenal’s Martin Ødegaard has revealed that former Arsenal playmaker, Mesut Ozil was among his favourite players while growing up. The Norway international signed a permanent deal with the Gunners, securing him a deal that will see him at the Emirates till 2026. Martin spent the second half of the previous season with Arsenal on a loan from Real Madrid, he impressed the boss and earned a place in the hearts of the fans in a very short time. The love and affection were what drove Ødegaard’s decision to join the Gunners, Mikel Arteta is also a very big admirer of the player.

Arsenal defeated Burnley away from home in a match which saw Martin Ødegaard register his very first goal this season in a beautiful free-kick 25 yards away from goal. Thanks to Martin’s goal, Arsenal won their second consecutive game and the Gunners will now face arch-rivals Tottenham in their next game.

What did Ødegaard say about Mesut Ozil?

Odegaard’s elegant style of playing and attributes have led him to being compared to former Arsenal player Mesut Ozil. When asked about his comparisons with Ozil, Odegaard responded, ‘I don’t like too much comparisons,” he told Stadium Astro. “He was one of my favourite players when I was young. I always admired him. His quality is amazing. It’s nice to hear [comparisons] but I don’t think too much about it.” Martin added.

Mesut spent eight years at the club and is considered to be a modern-day legend by many. Ozil’s signing was regarded as one of Arsenal’s biggest signing at the time, the midfielder went on to win three FA Cups and made over 250 appearances after leaving for Turkish club Fenerbahçe in January transfer window.

Martin Ødegaard on the other hand has just started to create a name for himself at the club and is expected to be Ozil’s successor. Will Ødegaard be able to help Arsenal get back where they belong? Only time will tell.
