“Intense battle for him” – Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur fight for the £44m signing
At the conclusion of the season, Manchester United and Tottenham will compete for the services of French international defender Axel Disasi
As reported by the Daily Mail, Manchester United contacted Axel Disasi in January about a possible transfer in the summer. A number of Premier League teams, including Tottenham, are reportedly keeping an eye on the 25-year-old French defender. And where he finally lands is anybody’s guess.
At the conclusion of the season, AS Monaco would be willing to sell the player for a significant sum. In addition, he will cost Manchester United £44 million. Disasi has been instrumental for the French club this season. He has the potential to become a top option for Manchester United as well.
The Red Devils want to strengthen their team all around, but their defense in particular needs reinforcements. Several key players, including Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, will leave at the conclusion of the season. Both of them have lost their starting spots at Old Trafford. These players will be the ones to take the initiative to return to regular playing status and revive their careers.
Disasi is still young (just 25) and should develop further via training and experience. In the next seasons, he might prove worthy of the £44 million investment. Coach Erik ten Hag’s goal is to assemble a team that can win the Premier League and compete in the Champions League.
What’s next?
The Red Devils need to focus on strengthening their defence. Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez are the only two consistent defenders for Manchester United. And Disasi is now a realistic option for the Red Devils to pursue.
In the next months, it will be interesting to see whether Manchester United is able to beat out the other Premier League teams for his services. The prospect of joining a major club like Manchester United at the age of 25 is going to be daunting. The transfer to the Premier League will give him a better opportunity of becoming a regular starter for the French national team, he believes.
Tottenham is also interested in acquiring his services. The London club really needs to bring in a strong backup for Cristian Romero. The Frenchman would be a great addition to the squad. Whether or if Tottenham can place high enough in the table to compete with Manchester United for his services is an open question.
