Arsenal Is Closely Observing This French Youngster To Carry On Their Defence In The Future

According to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are following William Saliba’s progress very closely. The Gunners are reportedly very happy with the way he is performing and will call the French defender back to Arsenal after this season. They also told William Saliba that they trust him 100% for the future and only loaned him out to OM so that he could play all games.

What is the situation regarding William Saliba?

Arsenal completed the signing of William Saliba in 2019, but he is yet to start even a single game for the senior team. This happened due to him being loaned out twice in two years, once to his boyhood club Saint-Etienne and the other to Nice, which happened in the January transfer window.

When The Gunners signed him, Unai Emery was still in charge, and he rated the defender very highly. Saliba is still very young and is regarded as one of the best young defenders there is. At the age of just 20, he captained his former club and has also captained his U21 national team on numerous occasions.

When he arrived at the club, a lot was expected from him, the fans thought that he was the solution to their defensive problems and that they had gotten a gem of a player. But lack of opportunities and not even a single start for the senior team meant that Saliba had to go out on a loan yet again.

The main reason behind loaning out William Saliba is that Mikel Arteta and his team want him to grow and improve right now, as he is still very young and has a long road ahead of him. Arsenal also signed Ben White this summer, which meant Saliba had to sit on the bench for most of the time.
