What Does The Probable Arrival Of Neymar To Chelsea Mean For World Football?

Where is Neymar headed: Todd Boehly made waves in Europe with his takeover bid for Chelsea and his words are now needed to be backed up by his action. One of those actions came in the form of hijacking the Raphinha deal last night as Boehly is successfully looking to beat Chelsea’s London rival Arsenal in the race of signing the Brazilian winger. To become title challengers, the Blues will still require signings and as of now, their priority lies in strengthening their attack.

Many names have made the headlines in the last few weeks and reportedly, big names such as Raheem Sterling and Ousmane Dembele. In the last couple of days, the situation has become even more interesting with Paris Saint-Germain initiating the controversy around their superstar Neymar. Even though he is willing to stay and play for the club, his future at the club looks bleak at the moment. Many top clubs around Europe are certainly hoping to pounce on this opportunity and land the Brazilian maestro and one of the clubs which can afford Neymar considering their financial situation is Boehly’s Chelsea.

Despite having loads of attacking options, the team is in desperate need of the offensive players who can play the football Tuchel wants to implement at Chelsea. That’s why singing Raphinha can prove to be a statement of intent from the board. As things stand, Chelsea is even willing to offload players like Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech. So, from making space in the wage bill to being able to afford the transfer fee for Neymar, Chelsea can do it all if the situation permits.

Another big advantage the club has is that Tuchel has previously worked with Neymar and the Brazilian enjoyed one of his best times under the German head coach as he scored 51 goals and assisted 32 times in two years. In an interview when asked about the most talented he has ever managed, Tuchel replied, “Is there more talent than Ney? I don’t know if that’s possible”. Neymar had also previously revealed his love and admiration towards Tuchel on numerous occasions.

Recently, Neymar’s former teammate at PSG and long-time friend Thiago Silva has also backed him to join Chelsea, saying, “He has to go to Chelsea”. The trio of Tuchel-Silva- Neymar had done wonders in the past for PSG including a path-breaking run in the 2019/20 season that saw the club qualify for the UEFA Champions League final for the first and only time in their entire history. The chemistry between these three has been immense and there is no question about that.

So, if Neymar arrives at Chelsea, it would make them serious title contenders and also a contender for the Champions League. He will also become the marquee signing under the reign of their new owners and a move to Chelsea that did not happen 12 years back for the winger, may finally come into fruition. Of course, the deal is far from being completed at this stage and with Neymar’s father now demanding PSG pay a hefty amount of money before they can even consider selling him, makes everything difficult. All in all, at this stage, this looks more like a dream signing than a marquee one but after Boehly’s last night’s endeavour, much is expected from this new era of Chelsea.
