Zidane decided to part ways with Madrid after a trophyless season that happened after 10 years in a glittering Los Blancos antiquity.

After this heated act at Vallecas, the erstwhile Real Madrid manager decided to pen an open letter for the fans of the club to clarify his decision of letting go of his prestigious calling in the Spanish capital.

Zidane’s open letter to Real Madrid and its fans

Zizou was highly critical of the Real president, Fiorentino Perez, quoting that he didn’t support the French legend in Madrid’s worst stint in the last decade. In fact, he was also vocal about the fact that his erstwhile work for the club was utterly disregarded.

Zidane’s message to the supporters read, “I’m leaving because I feel the club no longer has the faith in me I need, nor the support to build something in the medium or long term.”

He also quoted, “I understand football and I know the demands of a club like Real Madrid. I know when you don’t win, you have to leave. But with this a very important thing has been forgotten, everything I built day-to-day has been forgotten, what I brought to my relationships with the players, with the 150 people who work with and around the team.”

He concluded by saying, “I want there to be respected for what we have achieved together. I would have liked my relationship with the club and the president over the past few months to have been a little different to that of other coaches.”

What exactly happened with Zidane at Vallecas?

Zidane was at Vallecas to watch his son, Luca play for Rayo Vallecano in the Spanish Segunda play-offs in the weekend. While in Vallecas, he was questioned by a journalist from Directo Gol, asking, “Mister, how are you? How is everything going? You left Real Madrid badly with the letter.”

Zidane was caught off guard and he reacted in an extremely livid manner, screaming at the journalist, “Are you going to follow me with the same questions? Really, your work is shameful. You know me and I know you. You stop recording and you come here to talk to me.”

Zidane managed to keep Madrid afloat in a Covid plagued 2019-20 season but the exploits barring the La Liga weren’t particularly great.
