Real Madrid, who are perennial powerhouses in La Liga, are allegedly prepared to pay AC Milan a transfer fee of €120 million to get the services of Portuguese international Rafael Leao
Real Madrid is said to be willing to pay a transfer fee of €120 million to acquire the services of Rafael Leao during the summer transfer window, as stated in a report by the Italian daily Gazzetta Dello Sport. However, AC Milan will ask for about €150 million in exchange for the international player from Portugal.
Rafael Leao brought a wealth of talent with him when he moved to AC Milan in August 2019 from Lille. However, the 22-year-old had trouble performing consistently at San Siro in the beginning. He was swinging wildly between hot and cold play at an alarming pace. The player, however, has been turned by Stefano Pioli into a dominant wide attacker. He has become AC Milan’s icon.
Leao had a productive season in 2021/22. He finished with 11 goals and eleven assists in 34 matches played in Serie A. He was named the league’s Most Valuable Player after helping the Rossoneri win the Serie A. The successes of the Portuguese international have not gone unnoticed. Many of the most prominent clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid, have set their eyes on signing the player.
Real Madrid’s interest in the player derives from the club’s failure to complete a Bosman deal to bring Kylian Mbappe to the Santiago Bernabeu. The French international footballer decided to remain at Paris Saint-Germain. Although, he had come to an agreement with Real Madrid.
Will the Los Blancos reach an agreement?
Because of this, the Spanish giants have been forced to shift their attention away from Mbappe. Leao has emerged as a potential replacement. The Portuguese international often plays on the left side of the field. But he also can have an impact on games when he is on the right-wing. This makes him a possibility that Real Madrid should think about.
The Merengues are now prepared to step up their pursuit of Leao’s signature. They have indicated that they are willing to make an offer of €120 million. However, the freshly crowned Serie A winners would not sell Leao for anything less than €150 million. It means that Real Madrid may not be able to get him despite the money they saved by not buying Mbappe.
It would be fascinating to watch whether Real Madrid can haggle the price tag down to an acceptable figure or if they stand fast on their offer of 120 million Euros. If the two clubs are unable to agree, Real Madrid may have a variety of options available to them.
