Real Madrid Interested On Signing Left Back To Reinforce Squad

The La Liga Leaders Want To Add More Squad Depth To Tackle Injury Woes

Madrid will be looking to add some defensive reinforcements to their squad during the summer 2022 transfer window. Even though Florentino Perez is interested in signing Erling Haaland to complement Kylian Mbappe, a Galactic front line is not Florentino Perez’s first focus. Real Madrid is serious about ensuring that they have a defensive backbone to support the freedom of such a talented group of strikers. They have shown an interest in defensive midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni and are considering options for the back four.

Given Dani Carvajal’s persistent injury issues and the fact that his current top backup, Lucas Vazquez, is not a right-back, the right-back position is the higher priority of the two positions.

According to a recent report from ABC Deportes’ Tomas Gonzalez-Martin, a left-back to assist Ferland Mendy is being considered for the team. In addition to Angelino of RB Leipzig and Jose Gaya of Valencia, the re-purchasing of Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon is one of the three alternatives.

Gaya and Reguilon are well-known names with the media linking them to Los Blancos. On the other hand, Angelino is a newcomer to the group. He is also the most gifted of the three, having settled in well at RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga after the Red Bull-owned club signed him permanently after his loan spell with the Premier League team.

Will Angelino suit Real Madrid?

Even though Angelino is a quality player with an appealing name, it would be surprising if Real Madrid were to make a serious effort to sign him. The reason for this is that he does not fulfil the requirements of the post held by Real.

Angelino is more of a wing-back or winger than a true fullback. According to what we’ve seen at Leipzig, he’s at his best when playing in a 3-5-2 with a significant attacking position as a wing-back. He’s more of a wide midfielder and wide playmaker than a fullback, which makes him a more versatile player.

Those who can push up the field and attack are in high demand at Real Madrid, and Marcelo established quite a reputation for himself during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu as a left defender who enjoyed getting forward.

Angelino, on the other hand, is not on the same level as Marcelo. He is fairly excellent, yet he is far poorer than the Brazilian on both the attacking and defensive ends of the field.

Take a look at the stats thus far in the year 2021-2022. He managed to record three assists in both the Champions League and the Bundesliga. With an astonishing average of over one and a half critical passes per game in league action. On the other hand, attacking players dribble past much more often than the rate at which he is making successful tackles. In the Champions League, he makes an average of 0.2 tackles per game. He gets dribbled past an average of 0.6 times. These numbers are not good for a defensive player.

Miguel Gutierrez is a superior player in any case

Angelino would be a significant burden on the defensive end. Moreover, when you add his all-around performance, he is not much superior to Mendy. More significantly, he is not a step above Miguel Gutierrez in terms of ability.

Don’t allow Miguel’s battles with injuries to take your attention away from his incredible skill. He has the potential to be something extraordinary. Miguel, who is just 20 years old, has all of the characteristics that Real Madrid wants in a left-back. He has technical quality, passing abilities, speed, and a high defensive work rate, among other attributes. Miguel has a certain chemistry with the group that Angelino does not.

There’s also the issue of one’s personality. Is Angelino the kind of character that would fit in well in the Real Madrid dressing room? We’re talking about someone who has rubbed clubs the wrong way in the past. He posted a public update on his ailment, which gave everyone else a heads-up.

Multiple incidences occurred in which Julian Nagelsmann had to intervene and keep him under control. He is a very player-friendly manager but had to react. Though Angelino is just 25, he lacks the charisma and maturity needed at the Bernabeu. Players such as Miguel, Eduardo Camavinga, Vinicius Jr. and Fede Valverde exemplify what the fans anticipate from the future generation of Madridistas.

He was used mainly for his creative influence at Leipzig and is an excellent fit in the Bundesliga. The fans don’t rate him worth the money that Real Madrid has been asked to pay. His current transfer price is at least €30m. Angelino is indeed an excellent player. But it does not necessarily translate into his being a prudent acquisition for Los Blancos.
