Real Madrid is scouting an Italian international from the Serie A to replace Dani Carvajal

AC Milan right-back Davide Calabria has ended up on the radars of La Liga title holders, Real Madrid. President Florentino Perez is reportedly considering securing the services of the 25-year-old to bolster the defensive unit.

Spanish news outlet Fichajes has claimed in its report that The Whites are on the lookout to reinforce their right-back position before the 2022-23 season gets underway. To that end, the Italian international has emerged as the leading target currently.

An AC Milan man through and through, Davide Calabria has quite justifiably caught the attention of Real Madrid. He made his first-team debut in the Italian outfit over six years ago. Ever since he has developed himself hugely and has gone from strength to strength.

He has solidified his position as a starter after playing a pivotal role in returning Milan to their winning ways. Currently one of the best right-backs in Europe, Calabria’s performances and development have rightly garnered attention.

Despite this not being his best season, Davide has still racked up two goals and three assists. He has featured in thirty-one games across all competitions, something that several top European clubs have noticed. One of them of course is Real Madrid.

As Dani Carvajal’s performance graphs dip due to recurring injuries, Real believe it’s time to get a backup ready. Their current backup right back, Lucas Vazquez has also not been firing on all cylinders. As a result, bolstering this position is now of paramount importance to the Los Blancos.

What’s the situation right now?

Their search for a right-back led them to be linked to Reece James recently. The Englishman had indeed popped up as a target for the Whites ahead of the summer window. In fact, they had even approached the player formally over a move. Reportedly, Reece too was quite keen on signing for Real Madrid.

However, Chelsea thwarted Real’s advance by refusing to listen to any offers for the England international. They have assured any other suitors that the player will be with them for a long time as a bumper offer for him is on its way as soon as the club completes its takeover.

Real Madrid therefore, is only left with the option of Calabria. And it seems to be viable as well with his prime years not behind him yet. However, very much like the case of Reece James, convincing the club will be a problem here as well. But things may be easier if Davide pushes for an exit by himself
