Mariano Diaz is said to have communicated his wish to leave Real Madrid this summer, and La Liga rivals Getafe have indicated an interest in acquiring his services
Mariano Diaz, a striker for Real Madrid who is now out of favour with the club’s coaching staff, is reportedly the subject of attention from fellow La Liga club Getafe and has expressed a desire to leave the club this summer.
After leaving Real Madrid for Olympique Lyon in the summer of 2017, Mariano Diaz returned to the Santiago Bernabeu a year later after having a successful season in France. After Cristiano Ronaldo had left the club, albeit temporarily, the striker was given the renowned No. 7 shirt.
Mariano’s second spell at Real Madrid, on the other hand, has mostly consisted of him sitting on the bench and making a few cameo appearances here and there. This was the situation during the previous season as well, with the 28-year-old only appearing 11 times across all competitions, during which he scored and assisted on a goal each time.
Mariano has little chance of breaking into the starting lineup as Karim Benzema is putting together one of the greatest stretches of his professional career. Real Madrid is planning to deploy Borja Mayoral and Juanmi Latasa as backups for Karim Benzema for the next season. As a result, Real Madrid is open to the possibility of unloading him and Luka Jovic this summer.
