‘From celebrating unselfishly for his teammates to winning it’-Twitter reacts as Karim Benzema wins the Ballon d’Or 2022

Karim Benzema, a striker for Real Madrid, was crowned the winner of the Ballon d’Or for 2022. He is the most recent player to get this prestigious honor. The attacker was the first Los Blancos player to win the award since Modric in 2018.

The striker has finished ahead of the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Robert Lewandowski, amongst others, to take the top spot in the 2022 Ballon d’Or rankings. This is the first time in the forward’s long career that he has ended in first place in the Ballon d’Or rankings.

During the previous competition, the French forward came quite close to winning the Ballon d’Or title. During the 2021 competition for the coveted Ballon d’Or award, Benzema achieved a position of fourth place overall in the standings. He ended up in fourth place, behind eventual champion Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski, and Jorginho, the midfielder for Chelsea.

In addition, Karim Benzema won the Ballon d’Or trophy, making him the first French player to do so since Zinedine Zidane, his former boss and the winner of the award in 1998. In addition to that, he is the sixth Frenchman to receive the prize, following in the footsteps of Zinedine Zidane, Michel Platini, Raymond Kopa, and Jean-Pierre Papin.

Karim Benzema had an outstanding season while playing for Real Madrid in 2021-22. Due in large part to the quantity of goals he scored, the Frenchman was instrumental in helping Los Blancos win both the league and the UEFA Champions League.

In 46 appearances in all competitions, the former Olympique Lyonnais attacker scored an incredible 44 goals and provided 15 assists. This includes his Pichichi Trophy-winning performance in La Liga, as he scored 27 goals to finish as the league’s leading goalscorer.

In addition, the French attacker proved crucial for Carlo Ancelotti’s team as they went on to win their 14th UEFA Champions League title. Benzema scored 15 goals in his 12 appearances in the Champions League, including hat-tricks in the knockout rounds against both Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Chelsea.

However, in the championship game earlier this year versus Liverpool in Paris, he did not score any goal. On that particular occasion, Vinicius Junior scored the game’s lone goal, and Real Madrid went on to defeat the Reds by a score of 1-0.

It is important to point out that the captain of the Los Blancos team has gotten off to a strong start to the 2022-23 season as well. As of the time this article was written, the striker for Real Madrid has scored five goals in a total of 10 appearances in all competitions. Recently, he scored a goal in the rivalry match known as “El Clasico” versus Barcelona. His team, who is coached by Carlo Ancelotti, won the match 3-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
