Real Madrid Reportedly In Talks With Star French Defender To Fill The Shoes of Ramos And Varane

As Real Madrid finished their current season in the second spot of the league table, two points adrift of the champions Atlético Madrid, they will now have their task cut out in the transfer window. Two of their main defenders that make their defensive bulwark almost impregnable, Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane may very well be headed away from the city.

Though it is expected that Ramos will pledge alliance to Real Madrid after negotiations, the situation of Varane seems a lot more chequered and complicated. Varane already has received a lucrative offer from English stalwart, Manchester United, and Real will have a good deal of coaxing to do if they would want him to continue at Santiago Bernabéu.

Going by the reports of French outlet, Foot Mercato, Real Madrid have opened talks with Sevilla center-back, Jules Kounde, in order to plug the void that may potentially be created if these two virtuosos choose to aid another team in the forthcoming summer.

The 22-year-old French international dished out a masterclass in the recently concluded season in the colours of Sevilla that saw them secure a Champions League berth. In a neck-to-neck encounter for the top-four contention, Sevilla finished in the fourth spot with 77 points, two shy of Barcelona. The team closest to them was Real Sociedad who landed up in the fifth spot, trailing by a whopping 15 points.

Kounde’s impressive showdown for Sevilla has earned him a call-up for the French national team in the imminent Euro 2020 where Didier Deschamps will like to bolster his rearguard through this persistently brilliant center-back.

Los Blancos will be raring to harness the crude caliber of this young center-back who can make a scintillating impact in the offing. However, landing Kounde won’t be a cakewalk given the exorbitant price tag that Sevilla has saddled on him.

Los Palanganas have strapped a 90 million Euro release clause to Kounde’s contract. Their director of football, Monchi is not ready to sell the illustrious Kounde for a penny less.

Kounde has a similar playing style to that of Varane, who takes his time to lunge into those final tackles. He also bates for the attackers to commit errors which hands him over the edge. He has a perfect situational awareness that makes him one of the most reckoning defenders in the Sevilla echelons. Despite lacking the height of a center-back, he makes up for it with an exorbitant jump and a robust brawn that aids him in winning the maximum number of tackles mid-air.

Varane may very well be headed to England if Madrid fails to coax him into extending their contract

Raphael Varane has already got a strong suitor in Manchester United who believes that they will be able to land the 28-year old defender for a reasonable price. However, according to the Real Madrid Express, Varane will most likely be extending his contract at Madrid in the forthcoming days.

Ramos, on the contrary, will see his contract expiring at the end of this summer. He didn’t have a significant season either with just 15 appearances in the entire La Liga 2021. Though it is unclear that what exactly will be Ramos’ destination, rumours have it in them that he may be taking a route to England in case Madrid chooses to part ways with the big man.
