Ralf Rangnick Opened Up About The Reason Why Donny Van De Beek Was On The Bench Mostly

In the midst of eight departures till the end of the season, Manchester United had to let go of Donny van de Beek to Everton because the exciting midfielder from Ajax could hardly get any game time at Old Trafford. Even albeit the move was on loan, the Dutch international will finally be getting quality game time at Goodison Park that always eluded him at the Theatre of Dreams under both the coaches that he has been with namely Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

VDB managed to bag 19 appearances in his chequered span of 17 months at Old Trafford. Following a showpiece arrival in 2020, where he was endorsed by United legends, Van der Sar himself, somehow Solskjaer believed that Donny wasn’t exactly the fit that would have aided United’s cause.

The arrival of Rangnick didn’t better his condition either as his time on the bench remained the same with United still using a double pivot in front of the defence. Fred and McTominay kept on getting starts while VDB was ignored because he didn’t fit the puzzle that Manchester was trying to work out.

This is what Ralf Rangnick had to say about Donny van de Beek

United’s new preceptor, Ralf Rangnick opened up about the exact dilemma that thwarted VDB from being a regular at Old Trafford. The solitary start for VDB under Rangnick came in an unimportant rubber against the Young Boys where his error cost United their lead.

The arrival of the German manager has completely changed the dynamics of the United midfield where the Brazilian Fred has found himself excelling while McTominay is regaining his shooting form. The duo has been solid whenever United has ventured forth but when the time for them has come down and defend, they have been all over the place.

United’s preceptor opened up about why exactly Rangnick opened why couldn’t the Dutch midfielder find himself ample game time under his reign. He quoted, “In the end, it’s a question of competition. Like Paul Pogba, I see him in the center of midfield as one of the 6 or 8 positions and we have quite a few other good players in those positions, therefore he didn’t get much game-time but that doesn’t mean he’s not good enough for the Premier League or Manchester United.”

He further added, “I’m pretty sure that he will get his game-time at Everton and show what kind of quality he can be. He’s a fantastic person and in the last nine or 10 weeks when I got to know him I’m fully aware he’s a fantastic team player and I wish him all the very best.”

Rangnick concluded by saying, “I was in contact with him and wish him all the best for the next months at Everton.” Manchester United will be battling Middlesbrough in a fourth-round clash of the FA Cup.
