Barcelona Transfer News: Reports indicate that FC Barcelona’s talented midfielder Franck Kessie is not interested in joining Tottenham and that Spurs’ bid to sign him was subsequently rejected.

TuttoMercatoWeb reports that Kessie, who signed with Barcelona last summer, has rejected an offer from Tottenham in favour of a return to Italy with Inter Milan being the odds-on favourite to recruit the midfielder.

Kessie, who joined Barcelona last year for free, has only started five games for the club and is reportedly available for £20 million. It is understandable that they would be willing to trade the 26-year-old.

While Tottenham may have been the frontrunner in the battle to recruit Kessie, the Spurs’ interest has been shot down by both Barcelona and Kessie himself, making a return to Italy seems certain for the 60-cap Ivory Coast international.

Indeed, it would have been the ideal moment for a trade to occur, given that Spurs are seeking to buy a central midfielder this January and Kessie has been connected with the Premier League club for quite some time. Despite this, the player appears to have secret hopes of relocating.

It’s crucial that Tottenham make a midfield acquisition before the transfer window closes in two weeks, otherwise, they risk missing out on a top-four finish and having to play in the UEFA Europa League again. The north London club would have benefited greatly from adding Kessie this month.

The new Kessie report will only make the former Inter manager more irritated by the fact that he has been demanding additions from the club for the whole month of January and has yet to get anything that may assist Spurs to break out of their current terrible form.

After all, as manager, Conte is someone who should have the full support of the Tottenham board. The fact that Spurs were unable to sign Kessie, an Ivorian who has been linked to both Inter and Chelsea, may irritate the former club’s manager for the rest of the month.
