Barcelona News Transfer: Ousmane Dembele, a French winger, has been involved in a protracted contract dispute with his current club. This summer, there is speculation that Dembele may sign with Premier League powerhouse Chelsea.
According to a report from a French publication called Le10 Sport (via SPORT), Dembele has decided to accept the contract offer that was presented to him by Chelsea. As a result, he is on track to reunite with Thomas Tuchel, his former manager at Borussia Dortmund, when he plays for Chelsea in the upcoming season.
The five years that Dembele has spent at Barcelona have been full of both highs and lows for him. The 25-year-old came to Camp Nou with the responsibility of taking over for Neymar, who had left the club in 2017 to join Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record 222 million euros.

However, the Frenchman was never able to reach his full potential while playing at Camp Nou due to injuries, fitness issues, and what was believed to be a lack of discipline and professionalism.
Dembele’s camp has been in negotiations over a new deal with Barcelona for a good part of the last ten months or so. But they haven’t really shown any indication that they wish to accept the Catalans’ proposal. The player entered the final year of his contract with the club last summer.
The 25-year-old player’s entourage had already rejected Barca’s offer at the end of 2021, which drove the club to try to transfer him in January. However, the player himself refused to go and decided to remain at the club instead.
After a very short banishment, Dembele was welcomed back into the fold by manager Xavi Hernandez. As the winger played an important part in Barcelona’s ascent up the La Liga rankings, Hernandez was able to get the most out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup champion.

The combination of Dembele’s strong play and Xavi’s desire that he remain at the club forced Barcelona to restart contract talks with his team in March. Xavi was adamant that Dembele remain at the club. But, to reiterate, despite the several meetings that were conducted, the two sides never truly seemed to be close to reaching an agreement.
It would seem at this point that Dembele has reached a contract agreement with Chelsea and is on track to join the Blues in the summer. PSG had also shown interest in the winger. But once Luis Campos took over as director of the club lately, they opted to stop pursuing their pursuit of the player.
It’s possible that Dembele’s success under Tuchel at Dortmund had a role in his choice to sign with Chelsea. Dembele had previously played for Dortmund and succeeded while playing under Tuchel. The forward’s camp has not yet sent a response to Barcelona’s last contract offer. So it seems as if he will be leaving the club as a free agent on the 30th of this month.
