“This is a bold response from Erik Ten Hag!”, Manchester United come out with a bold response for Atletico Madrid’s offer for the €18.9M-rated player
Erik ten Hag does not want to lose Victor Lindelof to Atletico Madrid, thus Manchester United has rejected their offer
Manchester United News: A bid from Atletico Madrid for Manchester United’s 28-year-old defensive back Victor Lindelof was reportedly rejected earlier this winter. The report comes courtesy of respected journalist Fabrizio Romano.
With just Wout Weghorst still to sign, Manchester United is not anticipated to be very active in this transfer window. According to reports, the Red Devils and Turkish heavyweights Besiktas have agreed on a loan arrangement, with the latter receiving a paltry sum in recompense for the former’s services.
This summer, Manchester United acquired forward Lisandro Martinez from Dutch club Ajax. Moreover, the Argentine international has become an immediate hit with fans at Old Trafford. His sudden success has relegated backups Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof to bench roles for the rest of the year.
Maguire in particular has taken a beating because of his subpar play. If things don’t improve before the end of the season, he will be put on the market in the summer transfer window.
What’s next for Victor Lindelof?
With two starts in the Carabao Cup and as the first choice in the UEFA Europa League, Lindelof has been a mainstay for the Swedish club this season. Recently, Manchester United blew over Charlton Athletic to reach the League Cup semi-finals, where they will meet Nottingham Forest.
With the English giants still having six games to play in January and having advanced to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, both Lindelof and Maguire may expect to see more playing time.
The shortened schedule will be off with a Premier League rivalry against Manchester City on Saturday and might conclude with the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest at home. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Manchester United has turned down Atletico Madrid’s offer of signing Lindelof.
The Spanish powerhouses made an inquiry for the 28-year-old defender. However, Manchester United was not interested in trading Lindelof this month. Atletico Madrid needs a new centre back in January with rumours of Felipe and Mario Hermoso leaving the club. And after failing to sign the Manchester United defender, Caglar Soyuncu will most likely go to the Spanish club.
Lindelof will have many chances to make a good impression on Erik ten Hag, and he is now ranked higher than Maguire in the preferences. Looking forward to seeing how he performs for Manchester United in the second half of the 2022/23 season.
