Real Madrid Keeping Tabs On Merih Demiral In The Summer
Real Madrid is showing interest in acquiring Juventus defender Merih Demiral. He is currently on loan at Atalanta and is having a stellar season.
According to Calciomercato, Real Madrid is keeping an eye on Merih Demiral’s performances for Serie A side Atalanta. They are interested in bringing the Turkish defender to the Bernabeu during the next summer transfer window.
While still a young guy, Demiral has had a somewhat journeyman career. He has travelled much despite his early age. After beginning his career with Turkish giants Fenerbahce, the 24-year-old moved to Portugal in 2017. He first signed with Alcanenense before joining Sporting CP a short time later. However, he only made one appearance for the Portuguese giants. He spent time on loan at Alanyaspor in Turkey before joining the club permanently in January 2019.
Demiral quickly moved on loan to Sassuolo. There he made a significant impression. The Serie A club signed him permanently in the summer, only to sell him to Juventus the following season. Although the Turkish defender spent most of his two years in Turin warming the bench or on the treatment tables, he only made 32 appearances before joining Atalanta on loan in the summer of 2021
Since joining La Dea, the 24-year-old has grown and has begun to live up to the great talent that has been shown throughout his career. Demiral has made 29 appearances for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side so far this season. Thus, ensuring that they have not suffered after the departure of Cristian Romero. He joined Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.
Atalanta paid Juventus a €3 million loan fee in exchange for his services. They also have an option to purchase him permanently for a price of €28 million, which they aim to exercise. Real Madrid, on the other hand, may step in and sign the defender in the summer. Thusluring him away from the club he now plays for.
Los Blancos do need defensive reinforcements
Logically, Real Madrid is on the hunt for defensive reinforcements. Given the paucity of high-quality alternatives available to them beyond Eder Militao and David Alaba. Nacho is in his forties and is only a backup option. Jesus Vallejo has fallen out of favour with Carlo Ancelotti during his tenure at the club.
Consequently, finding a new centre-back is a high priority for Real Madrid ahead of next season. Thus leading to ties with several defenders, including Bayern Munich’s Lucas Hernandez and Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger. He has been in continuous contact with Los Blancos throughout the summer transfer window. Real Madrid is also in with a move for Merih Demiral in the run-up to the summer transfer window.
According to the report, Real Madrid would have to spend a total of €50 million if they want to persuade Atalanta to split ways with Demiral immediately after signing him permanently. It remains to be seen whether or not the leaders of La Liga are prepared to satisfy such requests.
