Given Real Madrid’s recent explosion in the Champions League where they would come back from behind in the dying minutes of the second leg to trounce Manchester City despite trailing for a lion’s share of the game, the world has already started believing in the fact that this year is of Los Blancos and there is no stopping them even though they are threatened by the arrival of Liverpool.
Well, the blistering form that Benzema is in, it almost seems certain that it will be an extremely elusive task to stop Madrid in the upcoming UCL final. Now, here is the fun part. It is definitely going to be difficult but not impossible and the man that Juergen Klopp is, he has pulled off miracles that others would only dream of.
Here is why Liverpool can actually thwart Madrid’s juggernaut
Here the biggest question that looms ahead of everyone is whether Liverpool is equipped with the power of thwarting Real? Well, the Reds actually approach the game with a safety-first stance, a belief that is bolstered by the likes of Virgil Van Djik and Ibrahima Konate, two sturdy monikers of the sport who have been absolutely resolute.
Add to that the venomous pair of the side-backs, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson who frequently ventures into the opposition territory, whipping in those marauding crosses that will thwart Real Madrid’s wingbacks to come overlapping.
Now coming to the midfield, Liverpool is teeming with creative talents, exactly like Real Madrid where there is precision, there is farsightedness and there is the gumption to keep on exploring the opposition’s attacking third. More importantly it also bridges the gap between the defence and the striking line perfectly considering overall dovetailing of the team.
Finally, comes their dreaded attacking line up that comprises Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane. Jota is the man who can finish anything fed to him and with the kind of supply that Mane and Salah come forth with, Real won’t be having it easy. They have an excellent defence at their disposal but the freedom to go forward will be very minimal. Hence, the free-flowing counter attacks would not be aplenty for Los Merengues.
Camavinga can appear as the game-changer for Real Madrid given his ability for long-passes but this is exactly where Thiago Alcantara comes into the picture. Now Klopp may be tempted to change Thiago with Jordan Henderson or James Milner to counter Camavinga’s long balls considering their towering stature in the midfield that comes with an added defensive flair from both.
Even though the world believes that Real Madrid is making it a habit to win games in the last minute, however, reality suggests that you do not take that chance against Liverpool. If you concede an early lead, it won’t be an easy outing, especially given the marauders called Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane.
