Real Madrid reportedly has an interest in Nicolo Zaniolo, according to a report from Defensa Central. The Italian national team’s 23-year-old star player, who might leave AS Roma this year, has garnered the attention of Carlo Ancelotti.

After spending almost a decade at Inter Milan, Nicolo Zaniolo made the move to AS Roma, where his life has been everything but stable. Immediately, the teenage attacker proved that the Nerazzurri were foolish to write him off. However, fitness difficulties have hampered him in recent years, slowing his development significantly.

This season (2022/23) has been largely injury-free for the 23-year-old, who has been a mainstay in AS Roma’s starting lineup. Moreover, Zaniolo has scored twice and assisted on three more goals in 15 games played across all competitions. Real Madrid has taken notice of the issue since the player is now in the last 18 months of his contract.

There is a lot of doubt about Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio, thus Real Madrid will probably add to their attacking unit during the summer transfer window. Both players may soon be leaving the Santiago Bernabeu for various reasons. Hazard has had a terrible time at Real Madrid, but Asensio is in the last six months of his deal.

That means the Spanish giants will have to spend the summer acquiring an offensive player who can fill in for either Isco or Ronaldo. On the other hand, he may challenge Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Junior for a starting spot in the attack. Thus, certain players, such as Marcus Thuram, have come into focus for Real Madrid.
