Even though he has signed with Al Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo is yet to make his debut for the club since the Saudi club supposedly has too many international players. When he was introduced to the public with much hoopla on Tuesday, the 37-year-old stated his desire to participate in the team’s next home game against Al Ta’ee on Thursday.
With Ronaldo’s signing, Al Nassr now has nine international players, one more than the eight permitted by Saudi football officials, according to an AFP report. Ronaldo’s contract is reportedly worth 200 million euros until June 2025.
Despite not being on the field with the squad just yet, Ronaldo is making sure his teammates feel his support.
In the video, which Al-Nassr posted on social media, the player can be seen rejoicing in the training room after his side scores a goal against Al-Ta’ee in the Saudi Pro League.
It was a 2-0 victory for Al-Nassr, solidifying their position as the league’s undisputed leaders. They have played 12 games and earned 29 points, four more than second-place Al-Shabab, who have played one less match.
“Al Nassr has not registered him yet because there is no vacancy for a foreign player,” a club official told AFP.
“A foreign player must leave to register Ronaldo, either by selling or by terminating the contract by mutual consent,” the report added.
Among the international players on Al Nassr’s roster are Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina, Brazilian midfielder Luiz Gustavo, Brazilian forward Anderson Talisca, and Cameroonian striker Vincent Aboubakar.
