La Liga champions Real Madrid are closely following the development of 17-year-old German star Youssoufa Moukoko as the season closes in. The Under 21 German international has emerged as a significant target for The Whites in recent days.
Spanish news publication Defensa Central has claimed in their latest report that the player could depart Borussia after this term. Interestingly enough, Youssoufa has managed to earn himself a rather prestigious nickname, “the new Eto’o.”
Youssoufa has drawn attention to himself as an imminent attacking threat in the European market. He has left a considerably large footprint in the Borussia youth setup during his rise to the top division.
However, after such impressive displays, that compelled Bundesliga to amend the rules for player’s age to make their debut, the player has not performed expectedly in the top tier. The regular minutes and game time have dried up and Moukokoseems to have accepted a bench role.
He has made only 23 appearances, gathering a meagre 475 minutes. Even those appearances mostly have come from the bench. With all this going on, it will not be surprising to see him leave Borussia next season. To add to it, his contract runs out this summer, making a departure even easier.
All this has encouraged Real Madrid to move in on the young talent and chances are, they may seal it. With Mariano Diaz and Luka Jovic departing The Bernabeu, the Los Blancos are on the lookout for a reserve striker. As it turns out, Youssoufameetsall those requirements.
To add to it, both the outgoing forwards are linked to Dortmund, thus making it easier for Real Madrid. Of course, he will have to accept the bench role even at the Bernabeu for quite some time. Carlo Ancelotti would only dream of replacing the in-form Karim Benzema with the youngster under current circumstances.
However, with the Frenchman well into his thirties, Moukoko can expect to earn a lead role soon enough. A gradual increase in-game time followed by a quick replacement of the former striker may soon be on the cards.
Quite understandably, Real Madrid was linked with Youssoufa’s Dortmund teammate, Erling Haaland for some time. Also in the race were their eternal rivals, Barcelona. However, the Norwegian international is now on the brink of signing up for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
All this makes a move for Youssoufa to Spain even more viable. If he does decide to run down his contract at Borussia, the Los Blancos could go all out for the German Under-21 international
