Manchester United Wants To Sign This Leeds United Player – Reports Suggest

Kalvin Phillips and his link with Manchester United: The cutthroat competition of highly competitive leagues and their nature of never letting the teams within the league be satisfied with what they often drive the teams towards the verge of a breakdown. That’s why it’s of extreme importance to instil a world-class infrastructure first and surround the club with people who are great at what they do. The next step is to hire top-class managers and staff and most importantly, sign players who are potentially world-beating talents. These are what separate a good club from a well run great club.

Manchester United has been suffering from the lack of these in recent years and despite spending a good amount of money on bringing in top talents, it just has not worked out well for them. According to recent reports, the club is keen to bring in the current Ajax manager Erik ten Hag as their new manager and successor of Ralf Rangnick. Amongst other names, the Paris Saint Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino’s name has been tossed around the club for quite a long time now.

The next step for the club has to be strengthening their squad and building on what they already have. One of the weakest areas for United is their defensive midfield position. The combination of Fred and Scott McTominay has not been up to the standards of what a club of United’s stature demands and should settle for. Thus, in the last few seasons, the club has been linked with various defensive midfielders around the world – Denis Zakaria and Declan Rice, to name a few. 

Kalvin Phillips to Old Trafford?

In the last few days, according to recent reports, the Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips is the first choice defensive midfielder for the Red Devils’ management. Phillips has come through the ranks of Leeds from a young age before making his debut in 2014 and getting his career rejuvenated under Marcelo Bielsa. He was an integral part of England’s journey during the 2020 Euro but has struggled to find his feet back since then. 

With all the injury woes and rivalry between Manchester United and Leeds United, the transfer at the moment looks complicated. The management may also for the opinion of their new manager before spending heavily to sign Phillips. So, only time will tell what’s in the cards for both the parties.
