Arsenal has come a long way from where they were and they sit comfortably in the fourth position of the points table, four points ahead of Manchester United and still with a game in hand. Despite a slow start to the season, their preceptor, Mikel Arteta has steered the ship amidst heavy storms and now it finally feels as if it is headed in the right direction.
Despite losing out to a superior Liverpool, Arsenal has managed to five out of their last six games. They started their rampage against Wolves and despite being a man down they managed to hold onto their lead as they walked out with the bragging rights by a slender margin. Gabriel found the back of the net for them in the 25th minute and it was enough for them to come home.
They chronicled a comfortable victory against the Bees as Emile Smith-Rowe and Bukayo Saka struck Bull’s eye for the Gunners. Despite a late finish from Norgaard, it was way beyond Brentford’s reach to secure a point.
In the return leg fixture against the Wolves, Arsenal prevailed for the second time, thanks to a dramatic turnaround in the latter stages of the game as Nicolas Pepe’s 82nd minute equalizer nullified Hwang Hee-Chan’s early strike while Jose Sa’s own goal saw Arsenal walking away with the bragging rights in the dying embers.
In a high-octane thriller featuring 5 goals, Arsenal managed to hold onto their lead despite a late scare from Watford as they ran short of time to restore parity. In a game where the momentum oscillated heavily with Odegaard banging home the opener, Watford crafted a swift response, courtesy of Cucho Hernandez. Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli struck on either side of the breather to restore Arsenal’s lead and extend it to a two-goal cushion. Moussa Sissoko’s 87th-minute banger left the Gunners on their toes as the game went down the wire to witness the latter walking out of Vicarage Road unscathed.
Thomas Partey and Alexandre Lacazette combined to give another win to the Gunners as the lackluster Foxes had no response whatsoever to the firepower of Arsenal.
Despite the best of their attempts, they failed to encroach against the Liverpool rearguard but was once again up and running against a resolute Aston Villa, thanks to Bukayo Saka’s low pearler.
If there has been one man who has played an elemental role in Arsenal’s upliftment from the shrouded ranks of mediocrity, that man definitely is Mikel Arteta. Drawing heavy flak at the beginning of the season, the Spaniard has completely changed the complexion of the Gunners and has successfully instilled a belief in his team-mates that anything is possible.
At the end of the Villa game, the fans kept no stones unturned to tell Arsenal’s boss that he has been their apple of the eye as the London outfit keeps on going from strength to strength. The fans were heard singing, “We’ve got super Mik Arteta! He knows exactly what we need… Kieran at the back, Gabi in attack, Arsenal are on their way to the Champions League!”
Arteta had a personal response to the same that cited, “Personally, it feels great.”
