Everton faces legal heat after Burnley and Leeds write to Premier League seeking action against the Toffees

Amidst all the new attention that has been hogged by Everton for all the wrong reasons, a new challenge seems Burnley and Leeds coming forth with the menace of legal action, an act that is supposedly a sham which Everton believe that they can defy without a breaking a sweat.

Everton made it loud and clear that they are confident about complying with the Premier League Financial Fair Play rules after Leeds and Burnley has written to the Premier League seeking legal action against the Toffees.

Here is what consequences Everton may face if proven guilty

As per the letter penned by the two other Premier clubs, it is mentioned that Everton has sustained losses of 371.8 million euro over the last three years. The figure is overwhelmingly against the Blues as it has crossed the set benchmark of 105 million Euros laid down by the FFP.

The Times has reported on Friday afternoon that the clubs have sought legal action against Everton after the figures that is said to be mentioned here went overboard by a proverbial mile.

Clubs have been given the authority of writing off their losses which were caused by the pandemic. In the latest statement issued by Everton, the club has mentioned that 170 million Euro of losses was caused due to the pandemic. Burnley and Leeds have requested for an independent commission to be set up to investigate Everton’s losses thoroughly. They have requested the commission to be set up within 6 weeks of the letter being received.

Going by the consequences, if the allegations are proved to be true, the maximum penalty can be points deduction from their ongoing league campaign. Burnley and Leeds have sought quicker action before the fixtures of the following season are declared unlike Premier League’s inquest into Manchester City’s affairs.

A joint letter was sent to Premier League executive Richard Masters by email that was signed by Burnley chairman, Alan Pace and Leeds United chief executive, Angus Kinnear. Burnley or Leeds are standing on the brink of relegation while Everton confirmed their residence in the Premier League after getting the better of Crystal Palace on Thursday night.

An Everton spokesperson has quoted, “We have worked closely with the Premier League to make sure we are compliant. We are comfortable we have complied with the rules. External auditors have told us what we can and cannot claim against the pandemic. If clubs want to take legal action that’s their decision.”
