The world was engrossed in a high-octane footballing encounter where the tempo was simply off the roof and the players of Denmark and Finland were absolutely resolute in their stance of not allowing their counterparts an iota of land without a brutal fight. Amidst all of it, the Dane skipper, Christian Eriksen fell face-first to the ground after a throw hit him.
Even though people thought that the ball could have been a major cause of damage, upon the passing of a minute, the ones surrounding him realized that it was far worse and medics rushed to his aid. The world was shocked and petrified about the possible outcomes. After rigorous treatment on the field, Eriksen was taken to the hospital and news started coming out that he has suffered a cardiac arrest but had been stable, thanks to the urgency shown by the field medics.
Almost after a year, Eriksen will be back to the national camp, courtesy of an implanted cardioverter-defibrillator that initially emitted a shadow of doubt about his forthcoming days but the former Spurs midfielder has adjusted pretty well and braved his odds to make a return to the sport.
Earlier when he was released by Inter Milan after his shaky return to the sport, he returned to the Premier League to sign up for Brentford. He made his first appearance for Brentford against Newcastle in a defeat for the Bees. He was introduced to the game after the breather where the fans gave him a standing ovation for the tenacity and love that he has shown towards the sport.
He was heard quoting later, “If you take away the result, I’m one happy man. To go through what I’ve been through, being back is a wonderful feeling.”
Eriksen parted ways with Inter on a dejected note because as per the regulations of Serie A, any player fitted with an ICD cannot compete in the contest. Following his departure from Inter, he trained with Odense Boldklub, the Danish team he represented as a teenager.
He has been instrumental in steering the Bees clear of the relegation zone as his first major contribution in terms of numbers came against the Clarets where he fed Ivan Toney with a gilt-edged delivery.
Denmark qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, acing their group with 27 points from 10 games, a display that would serve as a reminder of their bedazzling brilliance.
