Jorge Mendes Has Brought In offers For Nico Gonzalez- How Did Barcelona Respond?
Barcelona News Transfer: Barcelona currently hosts some of the top midfield talents in their youthful squad. Xavi already has Pedri, Gavi, and Nico Gonzalez at his disposal.
Also, Frenkie De Jong is another player who is part of this young energetic set-up. However, compared to the 18-year-olds, De Jong looks very senior.
Xavi has handed Pedri and Gavi regular minutes but the case has been different with Nico Gonzalez. He has hardly featured for the Spanish side. He had just 12 league starts to his belt. That averages to a mere 42 minutes per game.
Most of the time, he has been used as a substitute as Xavi kept Sergio Busquets as his undisputed starter. Still, Nico Gonzalez managed to get in two goals and provided one assist.
Barcelona roped in Frank Kessie from AC Milan which has made matters worse for Gonzalez. Kessie could certainly start and now De Jong is on the verge of leaving the club. This will further hamper Gonzalez’s chances of playing regular football.
It seems that De Jong’s departure could ease some pressure on the young defensive midfielder. But in case he stays then things would look bad for him. It’s quite natural for foreign teams to exploit such a situation and the same has been the case with the 20-year-old academy graduate.
Barcelona News Transfer: Super-Agent Jorge Mendes Reveals That Nico Gonzalez Is Not For Sale
Ramon Salmurri of Catalunya Radio has reported that Barcelona had received offers from Italy and England for Nico Gonzalez. However, currently, the club has no plans to listen to such offers.
Jorge Mendes said: “Barcelona has no intention to sell Nico, even though there are proposals”
These proposals mean that other elite clubs are trying to lure the defensive midfielder. However, Barcelona is not at all interested in selling their prized academy graduate. They can loan him for one season but that will certainly not include any buy clause.
Xavi wants to keep his young stars with him as he believes that they have the potential to change Barcelona’s fortunes.
