AC Milan On The Brink Of Penning History After 11 Long Years

Modern football has definitely evolved and the kind of teams that go in the vie for supremacy have technically been a lit more superior than the teams that dictated the game back in the last decade of the 20th century and the opening decennium of the 21st century. Most of the giants back then are not a ghost of their former scintillating selves with occasional bursts of excellence. When we talk about the lore of lost footballing giants, AC Milan is one of them. After a prolonged wait of 11 years, the Rossoneri now stands in touching distance of the hallowed Scudetto.

There was a time when the Italian juggernaut has hosted legends like Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Adriano, Alessandro Nesta, Andrea Pirlo, Clarence Seedorf, David Beckham, Fabio Cudicini, Gattuso, Cafu, Maldini, Ruud Gullit and the list can go on and on. Times change and in a footballing world where the more you can spend, the better players you get, it is a bout of fresh air to witness the resurgence of AC Milan from the very ruins.

A story of AC Milan wresting control of the Serie A

It was a hallowed night at the San Siro when La Dea came with the hope of a power wrest as they had their priorities sorted. But then football is a beautiful game and on one such night of folk tales coming alive from the lore of the Rossoneri, it was the night of the historical juggernauts who would script the narrative.

Atlanta started calling the early shots as Maignan was summoned to pull off a thunderous save when he would catch Muriel’s fireball from range. However, post that enterprise of the Blues, it was more of a cagey affair in the opening half with both the sides observing caution.

All it took Milan to rattle the impasse was just 10 minutes after the game resumed and it was Rafael Leao who would slam home the perfect finish while Kalulu would pull off a larceny from an Atlanta howler. Once Kalulu would have the ball, he would feed Messias who would in turn dink it over the infringing Atlanta attackers and that would spawn a seraphic Milan counter-attack at the end of which Leao would outgun his markers and comfortably nudge the ball home through the legs of Musso.

The opener would ensue some serious counter-attacking football and both the teams would come up with one peach after the other at both ends despite the scoreline not being troubled. With all said and done, Milan would put the game to bed with Theo Hernandez spearing home an absolute pearler. The defender would drill from his own penalty box to the very finishing move where he would prance and pirouette past a slew of defenders before splitting open an angle to rattle the net that would dampen the spirits of the San Siro invaders.

Despite Gasperini’s vehement reshuffling, his team would simply be outclassed by Milan in the second half as they would come up with a resolute mindset and a totally evolved side who would work out the perfect angles, would take a lot more of workload and would simply lay waste to the invaders of their shrine.
