Sevilla Director Monchi Denies Any Link With Real Madrid Midfielder Isco

Sevilla director Monchi has downplayed the club’s interest in signing Real Madrid midfielder Isco, even though he and manager Jule Lopetegui ‘like’ the player.

As reported by Tribal Football, Sevilla director Monchi has acknowledged that both he and manager Julen Lopetegui are admirers of Real Madrid midfielder Isco. But he has reiterated that there is no truth to the reports linking the Spaniard to the Andalusian club.

Isco has entered the final few months of his Real Madrid contract. He is largely anticipated to leave Real Madrid on a free transfer at the end of this season. He has dropped down the pecking order during his time there.

It appears that there is no shortage of interest in the former Malaga prodigy. Several clubs both within and outside of Spain expressed an interest in signing him. In recent sources, it has been stated that Sevilla is leading the race to sign Isco. Some even reported that they have already reached an agreement with the player over a free move in the summer.

In response to the rumours, Monchi has claimed that Sevilla manager Jule Lopetegui admires Isco. But he has declined to comment on the rumours of a possible transfer. “I haven’t heard Julen express his feelings for Isco. As he has stated, he is a competent player. I’d also say he’s a good player, should you ask me about him. Isco is liked by Lopetegui, and I like him as well, but there’s nothing,” Monchi remarked.

What is in store in Isco’s future?

At both the club and international levels, Lopetegui has already collaborated with Isco. While Julen Lopetegui was in charge of the Spanish national team leading up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the Spanish playmaker was a constant presence on the field. Isco was also a fixture in the starting lineup while the current Sevilla manager was in charge of things at Real Madrid for a short period in 2018.

It remains to be seen whether or if a reunion will take place in the summer. As things are, Isco appears to be on his way out of Real Madrid at the end of the season. Since joining the club in 2013, the 29-year-old has made up to 350 appearances. He has been directly involved in the scoring of 109 goals (53 goals, 56 assists).

A move to Sevilla, where he will join forces with a manager who believes in him, could be the best course of action for Isco. He seeks to revive his stale career and get back into the plans of Spain boss Luis Enrique before the World Cup, which takes place at the end of the year.
