Tottenham has shortlisted a defender to replace Clement Lenglet when he returns back to Barcelona at the end of the season

Rodrigo Becao, a defender for Udinese who is hesitant to sign a contract extension with the Serie A club, has been connected with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, which has led to speculation about a potential transfer

Rodrigo Becao, a defender for Udinese who is now 26 years old, has supposedly caught the attention of Tottenham Hotspur. According to a report published by Tutto Udinese, which states that the Brazilian is a player who is ‘loved’ by clubs in the Premier League, Spurs and Everton are cited as the teams who are currently most interested’ in obtaining his services.

Becao started his professional football career in his native country of Brazil with EC Bahia. In 2018, he relocated to Europe and started playing for CSKA Moscow on loan for the season. Before Udinese signed him to a long-term contract in the summer of 2019, he had a fruitful run with the Russian club where he had previously been playing.

Since then, he has established himself as a mainstay in the Udinese lineup, and he appeared in a total of 35 matches in the previous campaign. Over the course of his career with the Little Zebras, he has accumulated over one hundred appearances, during which he has scored three goals and provided three assists.

Udinese have had a really strong start to the domestic portion of the season thus far, and they want to keep it up. It is easy to say that the Friulians have been punching far above their weight so far this season, as they are now enjoying a comfortable position in the Champions League spot in the Serie A standings.

Although players such as Gerard Deulofeu, Beto, Roberto Pereyra, and Destiny Udogie, who is on his way to Tottenham, have dominated the headlines, Premier League teams continue to show interest in central defensive powerhouse Becao.

The Brazilian defender has entered the final 18 months of his contract at Dacia Arena and is hesitant to sign a contract extension with the Serie A high-fliers after receiving interest from both Everton and Tottenham Hotspur of the Premier League.

The 26-year-old is aware of the interest that has been shown in him by other teams and does not want to jeopardize the possibility of a high-profile transfer by prolonging his time with Udinese.

It is being speculated that Becao will be put on the market at the end of the season if he continues to decline a contract extension with them. This is because the Italian club does not want to lose the prized asset on a free transfer in 2024. As a result, the Italian club could be under pressure to sell him at the end of this season.

During this past summer, it was well known that Tottenham needed a versatile defender who could play in any of their back three positions. Alessandro Bastoni of Inter Milan, Evan Ndicka of Eintracht Frankfurt, and Roger Ibanez of AS Roma have all been mentioned in connection with a possible transfer to North London.

Becao was also a player that Antonio Conte’s team was interested in, and it looks that the Lilywhites are still in the running to acquire the Udinese mainstay despite the competition. Because Clement Lenglet will be heading back to Barcelona at the conclusion of his loan stay, Antonio Conte would definitely be wise to acquire the Brazilian in order to have a great depth option for the next season.

Becao is a player that might take the position of the Frenchman on the Spurs roster. Should Becao continue his rise to prominence, then he could turn out to be a cheaper alternative, with Udinese demanding just around €20 million if he is sold next summer. While Inter’s Bastoni remains the top target in the long run, Becao could turn out to be a cheaper alternative should he continue his rise to prominence.
