While the Erling Haaland saga has finally reached its end, another potential saga is in the making, which involves Robert Lewandowski and his current employer, Bayern Munich. It seems that there is trouble in paradise between the two parties and the end is near. According to multiple reports, the Polish striker has made it very clear to the German giants that he will not be signing an extension with the club. Lewandowski’s contract expires at the end of next season.
He has made it very clear that he would prefer a change of scenery. He has been saying that he requires a new challenge. This is amid reports linking him with a move away from the German side. Robert Lewandowski has had a fruitful stay with the club. He has won the Bundesliga, the Champions League, and the DFB Pokal during his 8-year stay with the club. He has had an extraordinary time with the club, scoring an astronomical 343 goals in 373 appearances for the club.
Robert Lewandowski has been his usual prolific self this season as well, scoring 49 goals in 45 appearances. But it seems like he has his heart set on a move to Barcelona, with manager Xavi wanting a striker for his rebuild next season.
Xavi has made signing a striker a priority. One of his first signings of the new era was Aubameyang from Arsenal. While he has proved to be a smart acquisition, Xavi has made it clear that signing a striker is on the top of his list. If the reports are to be believed, it seems like both player and club have been throwing flirtatious glances each other.
Another reason for the discontent with Lewandowski is the fact that Bayern was open in the pursuit of Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, who has since signed for Man City. Due to this, he felt “offended” by the club. While the move makes a lot of sense for both parties, there will be certain things that will need to be taken care of.
The biggest issue is the financial situation of Barcelona. It is no secret to anybody that the Catalan club is in dire straits. They are actively looking to offload players in order to generate some sort of financial liquidity. So whether they have the finances to pull the move and then agree to the wages of the player as well, will need to be seen. The Polish striker will definitely demand a higher wage for the quality of the player that he is.
Will Robert Lewandowski be a Barcelona player? or will he be in Bayern colours?. We are in for a crazy time this coming summer.
