Real Madrid Set To Sign A Cheap Replacement For Marcelo

Los Blancos May Have Found The Perfect Solution To Replace Marcelo

Some Madridistas were taken aback by a story from ABC Deportes’ Tomas Gonzalez-Martin yesterday, in which it was said that Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti did not have confidence in Castilla’s promising left-back Miguel Gutierrez. In addition, the club is on the lookout for a new left-back this summer.

Since a result of Marcelo’s departure from the club this summer after the expiration of his contract and Miguel’s uncertain future, the club must sign a replacement for Mendy’s backup position, as the Frenchman’s injuries have been a regular source of concern for the management team.

According to reports, certain names such as Sergio Reguilon and Jose Gaya were prospective targets. The former has a buy-back clause of€45m in his contract with Tottenham. However, another name has now floated in the media as a potential Marcelo successor. This new possibility seems to be a viable one.

According to AS’s Sergio Santos, Real Madrid is interested in signing Rayo Vallecano’s left-back Fran Garcia this summer for an undisclosed price. The Real Madrid President was indicating that the loan of Miguel Gutierrez was an option. Real Madrid will attempt to sign Garcia for merely €5m since the club has 50 percent of Garcia’s rights. This is despite selling him to Rayo in the summer of 2021.

Fran Garcia has the potential to be an excellent backup for Mendy

Real Madrid’s academy has consistently produced outstanding full-backs, with some of the finest examples being Dani Carvajal, Alvaro Arbeloa, Sergio Reguilon, and Achraf Hakimi. Fran Garcia is another excellent full-back who, although he hasn’t done much yet, has a great deal of promise.

Fran Garcia was at Castilla until 21. But the club management and hierarchy didn’t give him much attention. Several Castilla coaches considered Miguel Gutierrez to be the finest left-back in the league. He was maturing, and he needed to take the next step in his professional development. Because of this, the club determined that it would be best to loan him to a squad where he would be able to obtain regular minutes. Following that, he got sent on a loan out to Rayo Vallecano for the remainder of the season in September 2020.

There weren’t many expectations from Fran. But he quietly enjoyed a spectacular season at Rayo. He was a key part of the team, helping them earn a promotion to La Liga. He played more than 3700 minutes for the club, scoring two goals and providing four assists, including a goal against Barcelona in the Copa Del Rey.

Rayo gave him the ‘Player of the Season title as well. The club didn’t waste any time in triggering the €2m buyout provision in his contract. They were keen on converting him into a permanent player for the club. Even though he has just one assist in LaLiga so far this season, this does not reflect his overall contribution, as he has consistently been one of the league’s finest left-backs. For carries into the last third of the field, he ranks in the 95th percentile throughout Europe, according to the FBREF, and in the 91st percentile for advanced carries.

What next for Real Madrid now; which players will they sign?

The fact that he is a highly skilled player equipped with deadly speed and outstanding attacking abilities, has led Rayo to utilise him as an attacking winger on occasion. Even though he is not a very tall player, he is a physically powerful player. A talent, who can put up a good battle against his opponents in one-on-one scenarios. He does have his own shortcomings, to be sure. But he has made significant strides forward in the previous 18 months.

With 50 percent of his rights remaining in the club’s possession and his release clause at Rayo Vallecano valued at just 10 million euros, the club could acquire him for less than five million euros. It would be a bargain, and the team would benefit from having a young and talented player as Mendy’s backup. Not to draw comparisons between him and Miguel, but if the club has chosen Miguel, then they should consider Fran as the best alternative.

He has already made his first-team debut. The player appeared for Real Madrid in a Copa Del Rey match against UD Melilla during the 2018/19 season. This was a game in which he assisted Isco for a goal. He has also played in the Spanish Super Cup for Real Madrid. If the news is correct and the club decides to purchase him back from Rayo, the 22-year-old could make many more first-team appearances. He could surely provide multiple assists in the future.
