Wilfred Ndidi is expected to join Real Madrid in the January transfer window, according to a report by the Spanish publication Fichajes, according to the report. The 24-year-old midfielder is valued at about €60 million by Premier League club Leicester City, who may be forced to sell their prized player this winter.
Having joined Leicester City from KRC Genk in January 2017 and since then, Wilfred Ndidi has established himself as one of the top midfielders in the Premier League. It might be said that the Nigerian international has served as the actual successor to N’Golo Kante at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium, having played an important role for them in the last five years.
At the time of writing, the 24-year-old has made 187 appearances for the former Premier League winners, netting nine goals and providing 11 assists in the process. His growth has also not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid among the clubs interested in signing him on a long-term basis.
In pursuit of Ndidi for three years already, Real Madrid has determined that the January transfer window is the optimal time in which to finally launch an effort to sign him. This is due to the fact that Casemiro’s erratic performances have left Carlo Ancelotti dissatisfied with his team.
A recent source has also stated that the Brazil international may be on his way out of the Santiago Bernabeu, with Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle United among the teams interested in bringing him to the Premier League champions. With that in mind, Ndidi might be a feasible option for Real Madrid in their pursuit of a new star.
The Merengues, on the other hand, may not be alone in their pursuit of the Nigerian midfielder, who has been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks. Ndidi’s transfer will not be cheap, though, as Leicester City is expected to seek €60 million in return for his services in the summer.
Despite the high asking price, Real Madrid would be confident in their ability to buy Ndidi, given Leicester’s failure to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season. Los Blancos may be able to entice the 24-year-old to the Spanish capital if they can give him the chance to compete in the UEFA Champions League, as they have done in the past.
The question is if Real Madrid would be prepared to part with €60 million to secure the services of Ndidi in the future. It’s possible that they may look elsewhere for the holding midfielder, with Joao Palhinha, Ruben Neves, and Marcelo Brozovic among the names on their shortlist for the position.
