Real Madrid has allegedly rejected a bid from FC Basel for 19-year-old centre-back Rafa Marin. He will not leave the club soon. According to a report by the Spanish daily MARCA, Rafa Marin has lately surfaced as the topic of attention from FC Basel about a potential transfer during the current transfer window. Despite this, Real Madrid will not be moving the 19-year-old centre-back anytime soon. The Swiss giants have their bid for the player turned down.
The Real Madrid development team has seen great growth since Rafa Marin came from Sevilla in July 2016. Since then, the youngster has made major strides inside the Spanish club’s youth system. The adolescent prodigy is now part of the Real Madrid Castilla team. He has impressed manager Raul along the way too. The Spaniard has predicted a great future plan for him.
During the current season, the 19-year-old centre-back has appeared in 15 league games for Real Madrid Castilla. He made it to the first-team squad for two games this season. It has also not gone unnoticed that Rafa Marin is making progress. Numerous teams throughout Europe, including FC Basel, have expressed interest in signing him.
FC Basel will have to enter the transfer market to sign a centre-back before the current transfer window closes in less than a week. The reason for this is that the Swiss giants traded Eray Comert to Valencia only a few days ago. This has left them with a significant vacuum in their central defensive unit.
To do this, Marin had suddenly surfaced as a realistic target for FC Basel. He had even made communication with the 19-year-old’s agents. Furthermore, the RotBlau even submitted a proposal for Real Madrid’s consideration, only for the club to reject the proposal nearly immediately.
Rafa Marin is in high regard by both Raul and Carlo Ancelotti. The Spanish giants have no intention of parting ways with him soon. And at a time when numerous centre-backs, notably Presnel Kimpembe, have been connected with Real Madrid, the Spanish defender might be a viable internal option for the Spanish giants.
As for FC Basel, the Swiss giants will have to look elsewhere for a centre-back this month. Marin is not expected to leave Real Madrid this month. Even though Jesus Vallejo has been strongly linked with a transfer away from the Santiago Bernabeu, it will be intriguing to watch whether or not the 19-year-old gets promoted to the first-team squad any time soon.
