As reported by the Spanish daily MARCA, Real Madrid playmaker Isco is garnering considerable attention from La Liga rivals Real Betis. His contract with the club expires at the end of the current season.
Isco joined Real Madrid from Malaga in 2013. He was considered to be one of the best young creative midfielders in the nation at the time of his arrival. After a short while, the Spaniard established himself as a major player in the team at the Santiago Bernabeu. Thus, contributing to the success that the club had under Carlo Ancelotti and Zinedine Zidane.
However, the playmaker has fallen out of favor at Real Madrid since Zidane took over as manager for the second time. He has failed to make an impact on the team’s first team over the last three years or so. The situation did not improve upon Ancelotti’s return to the club last summer. The 30-year-old appeared in only 15 games in all competitions thus far this season. He has scored two goals in the process.
His Real Madrid contract expires after this season. There is little possibility that the La Liga champions-elect would extend it to include another season with them. Consequently, the Spanish international will be available for a free transfer in the summer. Several teams both inside and outside of Spain have shown an interest in signing him.
A summer move to West Ham has been mentioned as a possibility for Isco. There are claims that he has already reached an agreement with La Liga heavyweights Sevilla regarding a possible summer transfer. As the 30-year-old playmaker prepares for the next stage in his career, Real Betis has also surfaced as a prospective destination for the player.
After defeating Valencia on penalties in the Copa del Rey final, Real Betis is aiming for a top-four finish in La Liga this season. They are now in fifth place, four points behind Atletico Madrid. And manager Manuel Pellegrini is eager to add to his squad for the next season. The club will engage in European competition.
According to the article, Pellegrini feels Isco could be a valuable member of his club. Discussions between the Real Madrid player and Betis about a summer transfer have already begun. To entice the 30-year-old, Los Verdiblancos are willing to give him a two-year deal with lucrative pay. This would make him one of the top three earners in the team at the Benito Villamarin.
It is now up to Isco to decide whether he will accept Real Betis’ offer or if he will choose to join forces with his former Spain and Real Madrid boss, Julen Lopetegui, at Sevilla soon. What is certain is that the 30-year-old will say farewell to the Merengues at the end of the season in June.
