According to reports, Paris Saint-Germain is interested in acquiring Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio during the summer transfer window. Diario Madridista has reported that Marco Asensio is the subject of attention from Paris Saint-Germain over potential transfer during the next summer transfer window. A more lucrative contract for the Spanish attacker is expected to be given by the Ligue 1 powerhouse rather than the one that Real Madrid has proposed.
So far in the season, Marco Asensio has had a topsy-turvy 2021/22 campaign. An injury to the 26-year-old during one of his early appearances this season relegated him to the periphery of Carlo Ancelotti’s starting lineups. He has struggled to maintain that position this season. Things did not look great at that point in time.
However, the Spanish attacker has turned his fortunes around spectacularly this term. That is, with a respectable seven goals and one assist in 23 appearances across all competitions in the 2021/22 season. While it seems certain that Asensio will remain at Real Madrid in the long run, he has reached the last 18 months of his current deal. Due to the sluggishness of the contract extension discussions, PSG might make a move when the summer transfer market opens.
As things stand, the Ligue 1 giants are on the verge of losing Kylian Mbappe’s services during the summer transfer window. Amid rumours of a lucrative new agreement with Real Madrid, the French international has reached the last six months of his current contract with Paris Saint-Germain. He is still no closer to a lucrative new deal.
While Les Parisiens work feverishly to ensure the long-term future of Kylian Mbappe, they will need to keep their alternatives open as well. A number of wide-attackers, notably Ousmane Dembele, have been connected with PSG to achieve this goal. With Marco Asensio emerging as the club’s newest target, these are still early days in this saga.
There can be many twists and turns as a lot of top clubs have an interest in the player. There could be more offers coming in too, in the long run. Nothing is still certain with Los Blancos considering a sale, as a last resort. If the player agrees to the contract in hand, then his extension will indeed happen. Terms have been put on the table and it is time he decided.
Even though Asensio has never been as productive as Mbappe in his career, getting him on a cheap contract might allow PSG to bring in another offensive reinforcement. They have been looking to add more quality in recent times. That is, in addition to the 26-year-old World Cup winner. Moreover, the French champions are prepared to give more favourable conditions than those proposed by Real Madrid.
The Merengues are giving Asensio a four-year contract at €4m each season. There will be additional variables based on titles won and games played. PSG will further pay him €6m per season. It seems that Paris is the place to be at present. Some big names have moved to the French capital in recent times.
Real Madrid will be patient in this case. They await the Spaniard’s decision on whether or not he is willing to commit his long-term future to the club or not. If he does not wish to stay, they will try to get the best out of this deal.
If he is interested in staying at the Bernabeu, he will have to do so by signing the deal that has been proposed. Their hand might be pushed if the deadlock persists beyond the summer transfer window, perhaps putting PSG into contention. Real Madrid will now take a strong stand in this transfer saga.
