Gabriel Slonina, a young goalkeeping wonder, has shown interest in moving to Real Madrid, according to his agent. This is a setback for Chelsea in their pursuit of acquiring his services.
The goalkeeper for the Chicago Fire is just 18 years old but has already made 25 appearances in Major League Soccer (MLS). In November of 2021, he also received his first call-up to the United States Men’s National Team team.
Slonina’s current deal is set to expire in 18 months. But several major teams in Europe have already shown interest in signing the young talent from the United States.
Slonina’s agent, Jame Garcia, has appealed with the Major League Soccer and the Chicago Fire to help his client complete a transfer to Real Madrid, which he describes as a “dream.” This is even though Chelsea is interested in the player. According to Football.London, Garcia remarked that:
“If Real Madrid is showing interest in one of Chicago’s players, then it is a great honor for both Chicago and the MLS. We are keeping our fingers crossed that Chicago and Real Madrid can agree so that Gabriel may live out his goal of playing for this club. He has put in an incredible amount of effort. Not just as a player but also as a person, he is really outstanding. I’ve come across very few, if any, individuals who put in as much effort as he does. He is a young guy who has a high level of intelligence and bravery.
Regarding other teams and other offers, we have had a lot of them. Although we are grateful to those clubs at the moment, it is impossible to refuse Real Madrid if you want to be successful. The Major League Soccer Players’ Association (MLSPA) and the Agents will need to collaborate to ensure the safety of the players involved in this circumstance. It is unacceptable for Major League Soccer teams to demand outrageously high transfer fees.”
Football.London claims that the Blues enquired about making a deal for Slonina in the month of February. The club in west London was optimistic that they would be able to recruit the youngster to their roster.
If the transaction had gone through, the goalkeeper would have spent the whole 2023 season playing for Chicago on loan. However, because of the restrictions that were placed on Roman Abramovich by the government of the United Kingdom, any progress that was being made with Chelsea’s transfer business was suspended.
According to the same source, the two-time defending European champions reportedly sought to rekindle their interest in the American goalkeeper. The battle, on the other hand, has heated up. Bayern Munich and Wolverhampton Wanderers are both interested in signing the goalkeeper.
To this point, Los Blancos have been more successful than the Blues throughout the summer transfer window. This success has come at the price of the Blues. They have just announced that center back Antonio Rudiger, has joined the team on a free transfer.
