Despite stiff opposition from Crystal Palace, Newcastle United is in pole position to complete the signing of Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah at the last minute. Newcastle United is reportedly close to the signing of Nketiah, according to a recent story from The Telegraph newspaper. The negotiations between Arsenal and Newcastle over the signing of the young striker are proceeding nicely. The young forward seems to be eager to leave the Emirates Stadium during the current January transfer window.
Newcastle United and Crystal Palace were the other clubs to indicate an interest in signing Nketiah this month. Arsenal, on the other hand, turned down their efforts earlier in the month. They stated that they were hesitant to allow the youngster’s exit without first securing a suitable replacement. The Gunners are yet to sign a striker. It is doubtful that the signing of Nketiah would be finalised until they do so.
According to the Gunners, their quest for a new attacker hasn’t been fruitful up to this point. A bid for Dusan Vlahovic was also made The player rejected the offer and joined Juventus instead. Also, a move for Luka Jovic is now off the table.
Newcastle, on the other hand, remains in a prime position to sign the former Leeds United forward. He has appeared in just 51 minutes of Premier League action so far this season. Arsenal supporters are divided on whether the teenager is prepared for the club’s first team at this time and if he needs regular playing time somewhere else.
St. James’ Park might prove to be a good option for Nketiah. He should play more often under Eddie Howe in the next season. Even though the Magpies’ head coach had already brought in Chris Wood earlier in the transfer window, he wants to bring in another somewhat younger and more energetic option. That is to have more variety in the final third.
Nketiah is an excellent match for the position. The 22-year-old is a modern-day centre-forward who depends largely on his pace and movement to create opportunities. The Londoner will also have plenty of offensive assistance, with the addition of Newcastle’s dynamic right-back Kieran Trippier earlier in January.
Newcastle United is closing in on the signing of Brighton & Hove Albion defender Dan Burn at the same time as the Nketiah transfer is close to being finalised. Newcastle United also signed Brazilian international Bruno Guimaraes, after reaching an agreement with the player. This might pave the way for the Tyneside giants to complete a sensational triple swoop.
A successful end to Newcastle’s January transfer window might go a long way towards providing Eddie Howe and his team a fighting chance to avoid relegation in the second half of the season. They are on the right path at present. The change in ownership is finally starting to show.
