Juergen Klopp Explains The Main Requirement To Win A Champions League

German boss Juergen Klopp opened up about Liverpool’s dominant win against Inter Milan in the glory hunt of Europe. In a thoroughly dominating display at San Siro, the English juggernaut left the hosts stunned, thanks to two late strikes from Roberto Firmino and Mohammed Salah.

Liverpool’s dominion was so emphatic that a seraphic attacking trident of Inter that comprised Lautaro Martinez, Edin Dzeko and Alexis Sanchez couldn’t even claw the surface in their own backyard.

Liverpool has been a dominant force driving through the heart of England and Europe concurrently, while the opposition has failed to come up with an answer for them whenever they have taken the field by storm.

Klopp said that it was not the display and the calibre of the men at San Siro that was responsible for their win away from home. It was the attitude and the spirit of the players.

He clarified the fact that this is the best possible Liverpool team that he has ever worked with but he also focused on the fact that what was more important for Liverpool was the spirit of the team.

The German boss also focused on the fact that a Champions League is not won because of good players. It depends on the players’ desire to land scintillating silverware.

Klopp quoted, “The quality and the potential of the boys was not the key for the win at Inter, the key was the attitude and the spirit we created on the pitch. My opinion is clear: top squad, best I ever had, but it is more important what kind of mood is in the team. You don’t win a Champions League away game against Inter Milan because you are good. You win it because you want it with all you have and that’s what we did.”

He was also not okay with the fact that one is able to make five substitutes in a game because he believes that it takes out the edge that the bigger teams bring to the contest.

According to him, it is the subs factor that is defining football in England. The number of substitutes takes away the late verve and vigour of a bigger team. Fresh legs towards the latter half of the game mean that one always needs to be on his toes to keep the momentum going.
