Richarlison’s name has been brought up in connection with a move to north London for a few weeks, and at first, Arsenal seemed to be the most interested team.
But it was said that he wanted to play in the Champions League, so Tottenham Hotspur swooped in and signed him.
After a great transfer tease on social media, the club confirmed the move on Friday morning, giving Antonio Conte’s team another boost.
Wilshere shot down the idea that the former Everton star would have made Mikel Arteta’s team, so it’s clear that not all Arsenal fans are too upset about not getting him.
When asked on talkSPORT if he would have taken Richarlison at Arsenal, the former England midfielder said, “Yes, but I don’t think he gets in the XI. He’d definitely try for it and be a good member of the team, but I don’t think he makes the starting lineup.”
After Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette left this year, the club only has Eddie Nketiah, who has been criticised, as a striker.
They are close to getting Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City. As wide players, Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, and Gabriel Martinelli are their best options.
Wilshere explained why he doesn’t think Richarlison should start over any of those forwards. He also said, “I think he definitely improves the squad.. He does something different for them. I wouldn’t say that I’m crushed that he didn’t sign with Arsenal. He’s 25, so not young.
Eventually, you have to do something with that potential, and if anyone can do it, it’s Antonio Conte, to be fair. I wouldn’t say I’m heartbroken as an Arsenal fan, but he could be worth keeping an eye on.”
If Richarlison turns out to be a great player, Conte brings out the best in him, and Spurs win the league, Wilshere will move to Australia.
Wilshere has a history of making fun of his team’s north London rivals, like with his famous “What do we think of Tottenham?” chant, and Richarlison is no stranger to this kind of rivalry.”
During his time on Merseyside, the former Watford player got into a lot of trouble. He often made fun of Liverpool, even though they had a much better run than Everton.
Richarlison didn’t hold back after Jurgen Klopp’s team lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid and failed to pass Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table a week earlier.
